Before seeing Jurassic World this June, read the sequel to the multimillion copy No。 1 bestselling thriller that inspired the first major motion picture Jurassic Park。

But there are rumours that something survived。 And when a team go to investigate, they are determined not to give it a chance to escape。

Michael Crichton takes the terrifying events of Jurassic Park even further in this unstoppably readable adventure sequel, told by a master storyteller。

This is one of the most interesting books I've ever read。 All the theories on evolution and extinction。。。 fascinating!Jurassic Park was great too with lots of science behind genetics but I love how primitive this one was - just dinos out in the wild living their lives, a beautiful mistake if you will。I have to say, Crichton always makes me feel like I'm getting smarter while being wildly entertained at the same time。 Bravo good sir。 👏 This is one of the most interesting books I've ever read。 All the theories on evolution and extinction。。。 fascinating!Jurassic Park was great too with lots of science behind genetics but I love how primitive this one was - just dinos out in the wild living their lives, a beautiful mistake if you will。I have to say, Crichton always makes me feel like I'm getting smarter while being wildly entertained at the same time。 Bravo good sir。 👏 。。。more

I truly have no words。 I was left speechless with the first one, but I think with this second one, I was left open-mouthed。 I do have to clarify that this was probably because I hardly remember anything from the movies besides the first one, but that doesn’t change just how great this book is。 I really don’t know what or how Michael Crichton did to develop such a story so full of details and twists and turns in so few pages that for a second I though it was really short! You’ll imagine my surprise when I noticed it had more than 400 pages。 Didn’t feel it heavy at all。Despite it being a novel full of real facts, complex theories and some very deep paragraphs courtesy of Ian Malcolm (whom I completely ADORE), I didn’t find it difficult to read and understand, in fact, there were a couple of times where some of the theories mentioned I actually went on my phone to learn more about then。 This is something not all books do for me, and I think I’ll reconsider going deeper into the science fiction genre and author because there is a world of information I have yet to discover! The story presented in this book shows a similar problem to the first novel, but in this case, we have an almost 100% natural untouched habitat full of dinosaurs! And when an important figure goes missing, an unconventional team takes matters into their own hands to go to the rescue! An adventure that was to take less than a day quickly turns into a nightmare against the clock for survival。With so many dinosaurs, I got to admit I had my phone close by because I didn’t identify all of them, mostly the big important ones were okay that were already familiar from the first book (like the compys!) but others just left me blank staring at the page trying to make sense of it。 It was pretty cool to dive into the pictures of drawings and bones that Google showed me。As a sequel, its amazing, I loved each and every one of the characters。 Yes, even the “villains” had their moment of stardom and adventures with the dinosaurs (view spoiler)[ and I have to admit that Dodgson’s ending was just amazing, he had it coming 100% (hide spoiler)]。 These books are just the type that leave you with some introspective debacle not only about science per se but about our roles as human beings in this planet。Follow me:@nocturnal。reads on Instagram@_nocturnalreads on TwitterNocturnal Reads on Youtube 。。。more

Ian Malcolm is not it, but Richard Levine might be lol。 Great kids, great plot, great science: a Michael Crichton Classic。

Took a while to get into but I didn't give up and despite Ian Malcom's random ramblings I thoroughly enjoyed the story。 Will definitely read it again one day。 Kind of gutted there aren't any more in the series。 Took a while to get into but I didn't give up and despite Ian Malcom's random ramblings I thoroughly enjoyed the story。 Will definitely read it again one day。 Kind of gutted there aren't any more in the series。 。。。more

So good。 Good pacing, excellent characters。 And dinosaurs! Shows how hubris and the limits of science combine for disaster。

Jurassic Park is one of my favorite books, however this one was disappointing。 I guess it's not fair to compare it to it's prequel, since that one was so, in my opinion, a masterpiece。 The overall story was meh。 The scientific talk (which I loooved in the first one) was overkill in this one - wayyy wayy to much of it, I couldn't care for it。 At the halfway point, I just wanted this to be over。 I was also shocked at how vastly differently this is from the movie (but now I understand why)。 I did r Jurassic Park is one of my favorite books, however this one was disappointing。 I guess it's not fair to compare it to it's prequel, since that one was so, in my opinion, a masterpiece。 The overall story was meh。 The scientific talk (which I loooved in the first one) was overkill in this one - wayyy wayy to much of it, I couldn't care for it。 At the halfway point, I just wanted this to be over。 I was also shocked at how vastly differently this is from the movie (but now I understand why)。 I did really like the T-rex/Trailer scene and I'm happy to see it originated from the book。 I didn't really care for the characters (even Ian who I really liked in the first one) and the use of two kids felt like a repetition of the previous one。 Overall, sadly not nearly as strong or enjoyable as the first one。 。。。more

A little gory with no real twists - a plain read not as exciting as I expected。

I won’t try to convince you that the first Jurassic Park book was “realistic”, but this book was just a silly, unbelievable, action movie action sequence for the second half and was honestly disappointing。

The reason i like this book because of how it used horror, it didn't tell you what happened until the very end of the chapter and that's what made it scarier, i would rate it 5 stars but it has the worst villain I've ever read about The reason i like this book because of how it used horror, it didn't tell you what happened until the very end of the chapter and that's what made it scarier, i would rate it 5 stars but it has the worst villain I've ever read about 。。。more

3。5/5 starsPlot:It took a while to build up in the beginning and was more mathematically based than the first one。 Honestly was a bit boring, but got better with some action at the end。 Malcolm was doing his usual "I'm hurt so I will lay around" while Dr。 Sarah Harding kicked butt like a queen。Characters:Sarah and Malcolm were definitely my favorites。 There were a lot of side characters whose names I couldn't keep straight。Writing:Slow in the beginning, still sorta slow at the end。 3。5/5 starsPlot:It took a while to build up in the beginning and was more mathematically based than the first one。 Honestly was a bit boring, but got better with some action at the end。 Malcolm was doing his usual "I'm hurt so I will lay around" while Dr。 Sarah Harding kicked butt like a queen。Characters:Sarah and Malcolm were definitely my favorites。 There were a lot of side characters whose names I couldn't keep straight。Writing:Slow in the beginning, still sorta slow at the end。 。。。more

Wayyy better than the movie。 It was a little sluggish in the beginning but once on the island the pace picked up big time。 The characters are well written and their situation is genuinely tense。

Okay based on my last review, I said how I knew in book 1 pretty much what to expect so I didn't get the same level of excitement and whatnot that would occur on a first time read。 However, I did get this with the second book。 So, I can talk more on that。 I definitely found the book exciting and scary and gory and all the good stuff。 I was surprised about Malcolm's return but that was fine and he was an enjoyable character to get to know more。 I had read some people's complaints about this book Okay based on my last review, I said how I knew in book 1 pretty much what to expect so I didn't get the same level of excitement and whatnot that would occur on a first time read。 However, I did get this with the second book。 So, I can talk more on that。 I definitely found the book exciting and scary and gory and all the good stuff。 I was surprised about Malcolm's return but that was fine and he was an enjoyable character to get to know more。 I had read some people's complaints about this book and honestly, it just sounds like people complaining just to complain。 Not quite sure what they were expecting from a sequel but I think Crichton did a great job and the story held me captive! 。。。more

Easy read, great for a beginner adult reader (or teenager)。 While the book was overall well written, I wasn't particularly enthralled by the content until the last quarter of the book。 It's also less fact-based and theoritical than the 1st book The 1st book I would re-read, this one I wouldn't, though I'm glad I did read it。 Easy read, great for a beginner adult reader (or teenager)。 While the book was overall well written, I wasn't particularly enthralled by the content until the last quarter of the book。 It's also less fact-based and theoritical than the 1st book The 1st book I would re-read, this one I wouldn't, though I'm glad I did read it。 。。。more

not near as good as jurassic park。 it was a very quick read, but i couldn’t tell you the plot line, just a conglomeration of scenes that didn’t mesh well。 the characters evaded death too easily, and the dinosaurs weren’t near as fearsome。 i couldn’t really grasp the concept of this Site B, and malcolm’s return simply wasn’t that believable。 it would’ve been better to bring back sattler, grant, or one of the kids。 i also didn’t love the kids in this, they weren’t realistic characters at all。 bein not near as good as jurassic park。 it was a very quick read, but i couldn’t tell you the plot line, just a conglomeration of scenes that didn’t mesh well。 the characters evaded death too easily, and the dinosaurs weren’t near as fearsome。 i couldn’t really grasp the concept of this Site B, and malcolm’s return simply wasn’t that believable。 it would’ve been better to bring back sattler, grant, or one of the kids。 i also didn’t love the kids in this, they weren’t realistic characters at all。 being said, i enjoyed it as a story。 i wont reread it though。 。。。more

This was a fun action thriller if you don’t think too hard。 It was obvious this was a money grab and it wasn’t as well thought out as the first one。 I do appreciate the characterization of Sarah Harding since it was so ridiculous。 She was the caricature of all action hero’s, but since it was a woman I was more entertained by something a bit different。

Whereas the movie Jurassic Park holds a prized place in the pantheon of my childhood and adulthood movie-watching, I've only watched The Lost World a couple of times and would have a hard time describing any of the plot elements。 Thus, I was really excited to approach this book fresh and see what it had to offer! Unfortunately, I was largely disappointed。 It had a few good bits, but I'm not sure I'll ever read it again。 Here are the highlights:BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Six years after the failed Jurassic Park enterprise literally burned to the ground, two competing teams of scientists pinpoint the location of InGen's "Site B", the dinosaur-breeding research facility on (wait for it) yet another privately-owned Costa Rican island。 They travel to the island with their teams (and yet another pair of tweenagers) to study/pillage the site。 Of course, after a brief moment when things seem to be going well, everyone quickly receives a series of grisly reminders why Jurassic Park was such a bad idea in the first place-turns out people are made of meat。What Went Right: Before I lament some of the book's shortcomings, I do have to admit to some of the book that came together really nicely。 First of all, I really liked Sarah Harding's character。 She makes a great addition, as a tough field scientist specializing in the behavior of large African predators。 And both the carnosaurs and the tyrannosaurs in the book were pretty awesome; I loved the carnosaurs' chameleon capabilities and the tyrannosaurs' child-rearing behavior, especially the sexual dimorphism and the self-starving behavior to feed their young, just like birds! I also loved some of the man-versus dinosaur clashes, with the best one probably being Sarah riding the motorcycle through the valley trying to chase down the raptor who inadvertently had the key-that was great!Drugged-up Philosophizing and Tweenage Stowaways: The book unfortunately committed some of the same sins as its predecessor。 Namely, Ian Malcolm (who really goes against his original character by choosing to go to the island at all, by the way) spends significant chunks of the book in between morphine trips, rhapsodizing about the inevitability of mankind's destruction and the desirability of the caveman days even while surrounded by dinosaurs trying to break in and eat him。 Even worse, Crichton couldn't resist throwing in two more "meddlin' kids" who tag along with one of the expeditions。 Arby and Kelly are admittedly far less annoying than their predecessors Tim and Lex, but I struggle to comprehend why Crichton decided that the young-kid-on-the-island element needed to be rehashed。 P。S。: Predators Not True to the Original: Though I've already commented on how much I enjoyed the carnosaurs and the tyrannosaurs in the book, I'd be remiss if I didn't say that Crichton didn't even try to stay true to some of the "rules" he imposed on them in the first book。 For example, after establishing the whole "their vision is based on movement" thing in the original, he unceremoniously shuttles the whole concept in the first human-vs。-T-Rex encounter。 And while Malcolm uses one of his rambling soliloquies to describe why the raptors are so brutal and inattentive towards their young as they scrabble around their squalid nest (they never had the chance to learn child-rearing behavior from real raptor parents), Crichton expects us to forget the uncanny order that permeated the drastically different raptor's nest from Jurassic Park's climax。Ultimately, I feel like the book suffered from a lack of overall creativity。 Given the whole range of possibilities that he had available following his description of a modern world now inhabited by dinosaurs, I'm disappointed that the best thing he could come up with was putting another small group of humans back on a remote dinosaur-inhabited island to be picked off by the carnivores one-by-one。 Ah, well。 I likely won't circle back to this book again, but now at least I know how the story "ended", as far as Crichton was concerned。 。。。more

The more I sit on thinking about this book, the more I enjoyed it。 It filled in all the gaps that the first was missing by painting a picture that is just as dinosaur-filled as ever can be。 A true sequel with little to no let down。 With a new extremely strong female lead that will have you thinking that you’d never get it off the island if you were there。 More blunt scientific narrative that makes reading quick and fun。 Just be sure to picture Jeff Goldblum the whole time。

The Lost World follows my MAIN MAN Ian Malcomb six years after the secret disaster at Jurassic Park。 The sarcastic, overconfident, mathematician Malcomb was my favorite character in the first book so I loved that I got to continue with his story。 I also liked the introduction to some new characters like Dr。 Sarah Harding。 I think Crichton wrote Sarah to be an intelligent, caring, and adventurous character I could root for。 I loved The Lost World just as much as Jurassic Park!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I really enjoyed this book。 Ian Malcolm really didn’t need to be revived for the story as he really didn’t bring anything to the story at all, he had previously been on a dinosaur island and just seemed useless。 I was also pretty annoyed that no one mentioned Eddie again after he died - the guy was a hero he deserved to be mourned by his “friends”。
